Raising the need for digitalisation especially also in SMEs. Cyber security is not the focus of SMEs. The risk of attacks is rapidly rising. Unskilled staff and managers are even not aware of the risk, while end-consumers are looking for trustworthy offers to store their sensitive data. While data is being secured in large companies and organisations, small and medium-sized enterprises, which are the most prevalent form of enterprises in the South Baltic area, are less secured, less prepared and state easy targets to cyber-attacks.

Based on Cybersecurity Breaches Survey almost half of the businesses report having cybersecurity breaches or attacks in 2020. Amount of attacks among small companies amounted to 62%, and medium-sized companies 68%. Among the 46 percent of businesses that identify breaches or attacks, one in five have experienced a material outcome, losing money or data. Two in five were negatively impacted, for example requiring new resources, having staff time diverted, or causing wider business disruption’
