Reducing social isolation among older people in remote rural areas by creating and sharing Cognitive Café activities through cross‑border cooperation.
Overview: The Silver Wave Collective project reduces social isolation among elderly people in remote and rural areas by strengthening cross‑border networking, cooperation and intercultural dialogue to develop and share innovative care approaches across the South Baltic area.
Key objectives: Improving social inclusion and wellbeing of isolated older adults, developing scalable community‑based activities that combine cognitive, motor and psychosocial elements, and fostering cross‑border exchange of inclusive practices.
Main activities: Co‑creating methodological guidelines for the “Cognitive Café” concept focused on cooperation and open dialogue; running study workshops and pilot sessions to engage isolated elderly in cognitive, motor and psychosocial educational activities; and organising a cross‑border International Forum as an inclusive, anti‑stigmatising campaign for older people.
Impact: Reduced loneliness and improved mental and physical wellbeing among older adults, tested and transferable Cognitive Café methodology, stronger cross‑border networks for elderly inclusion and greater public awareness and acceptance across the South Baltic area.
