The project is led by Administration of Minor Lithuania Protected Areas (LT).
The overall project objective is to develop new sustainable, resilient, and innovative tourism product which includes the management of South Baltic natural protected areas and the active involvement of visitors (tourists, volunteers) in protection and restoration activities.
The project’s activities are combined into four content-related work packages. The first work package includes the creation of the concept of indirect involvement of visitors and tourists in the management of protected areas, the preparation of pilot activities, as well as study visits and workshops with the involvement of local communities and SMEs. The second work package is dedicated to the implementation of pilots, starting from the mapping of pilot activities to setting target group representatives for testing activities. The third work package identifies and describes good practices and plans promotion activities to disseminate the concept of management of protected areas as a tourism attraction. The last work package is devoted to the launch of the joint tour product of the proposed area managers, culminating in the final event for 100 stakeholders and field experts.
The main target groups are managers and specialists of protected areas, tourists, NGOs (mostly social, including youth and persons with disabilities), local communities and authorities, tourism service providers, and local businesses and SMEs.
