Supporting the energy transition in South Baltic seaports by promoting alternative fuels and enhancing ecological awareness.
Overview: The DeCoInter project focuses on supporting the energy transition in seaports and their surroundings within the South Baltic area. It addresses the challenges posed by climate goals, particularly the transition to green energy sources, to meet the European Green Deal’s targets for GHG reduction and climate neutrality.
Key Objectives: The project aims to facilitate the decarbonisation process in seaports by increasing awareness, developing distribution and storage facilities for alternative fuels, and implementing emission monitoring tools. It seeks to stimulate the use of alternative fuels and innovative propulsion technologies, contributing to a sustainable value chain.
Main Activities: Activities include developing and promoting the distribution and safe use of alternative fuels such as methanol, ammonium, hydrogen, hybrid, and electric technologies. The project involves creating emission monitoring tools like GHG emission mapping and a CO2 footprint calculator. Additionally, it facilitates networking and learning among seaport stakeholders, offering training and education programmes to build ecological awareness.
Impact: By fostering collaboration among seaport stakeholders, the project advances the decarbonisation of ports and related transport links, aligning with climate goals. It encourages the establishment of a sustainable value chain, enhances eco-efficiency in supply chains, and promotes the adoption of new fuels and technologies, contributing to a more sustainable maritime sector in the South Baltic area.
