From Idea to Cross‑Border Action – South Baltic Sustainable Energy Workshop in Gdańsk

18.05.2026

As Europe prepares for the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW), the largest annual event dedicated to renewable energy and clean energy transition in Europe, the Interreg South Baltic Programme will bring students, researchers and project practitioners together in Gdańsk for an interactive workshop focused on cross-border cooperation and local energy innovation.

On 1 June 2026, Gdańsk University of Technology will host the “Sustainable Energy Innovation Workshop “From idea to cross-border project application”, an event designed to introduce younger generations to the role of territorial cooperation in addressing Europe’s energy challenges.

The workshop will open with presentations of EU funding opportunities supporting renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainable regional development, including opportunities offered through the Interreg South Baltic Programme. Participants will also have the opportunity to explore the experiences and results of three South Baltic projects contributing to the green transition: LoCaGas, BioSolFarm, Re-Farm, and WAW – What a Waste.

Moving beyond traditional conference formats, the event will place students at the centre of the discussion through an interactive World Café session. Working side by side with project lead partners, researchers, university professors and energy professionals, participants will develop their own cross-border project ideas addressing renewable energy production, local energy resilience and sustainability challenges in the South Baltic area.

The event aims not only to raise awareness about EU energy and climate objectives, but also to demonstrate how cooperation across borders can transform local ideas into practical solutions with regional impact. By connecting students directly with ongoing EU-funded initiatives, the workshop seeks to strengthen youth engagement in the energy transition and encourage future participation in European cooperation projects.

As part of the event, two students will also receive the opportunity to participate in future project meetings organised by the participating projects, gaining first-hand experience of how international cooperation projects are developed and implemented in practice.
