Until the Covid-19 pandemic tourism was one of the leading sectors in the world contributing to global GDP by 10,4 % and creating 1 out of 10 jobs. The mapping and promotion of nature-based wellness (NBW) tourism packages, integrating recreation in nature services and nature-based medical therapies, could act as an effective tool for the recovery of social life, cultural bonds, economic growth and health issues in the South Baltic area (SBA).
The network of institutions, participating in tourism development (providers, DMOs, ITCs, associations, local and regional authorities) enhance cooperation in the promotion of jointly developed solutions (e-map) and exchange of know-how, essential for poor regions and newly occupied NBW service providers. On the personal level NBW activities enable rejuvenation of body, mind and spirit; on an economic level – strengthens the resilience of destinations as it increases tourism expenditure, provides economic benefits for local businesses and residents, and reduces tourism seasonality. The project helps SBA to recover in the post-Covid-19 era and become the area where nature, cultural assets, and the economy work in synergy.
