According to the 2020 UNESCO Report, 90% of museums around the world have temporarily closed due to the crisis. What is more, over 10% of these institutions may never reopen. What concerns the South Baltic region, all of the countries in this region have adopted museum closure measures during the pandemic. In addition, the pandemic has caused a great downturn in tourist traffic, economically affecting local communities, as well as cultural professionals and artists.
The Baltic Resilient Museums (BREM) creates and promotes a network for cross-border cultural cooperation and exchange of experience, potentially sharing resources and improving their sustainability. The network gathers representatives of the public sector (local, regional, and national level), Non-government organisations (NGOs), individuals and private sector. More specifically, the aim is to involve small and inexperienced organisations in the cultural sector to benefit from cross-border cooperation.
