The project involves eleven partners from Germany (3), Denmark (2), Lithuania (2), Poland (3) and Sweden
(1). The partnership is composed of universities, research institutes, NGOs, a national park and public
institutions. The partners are supported by ten associated partners which are NGOs, DMO, local authority
and SMEs from Germany, Lithuania, Poland. The project is led by Hochschule Wismar, University of Applied Sciences: Technology, Business and Design (DE).
The overall project objective is to boost sustainable recreational tourism in the South Baltic Area by
recognising and branding forests as spaces for active outdoor tourism and mental healing to create year round sustainable tourist appeal.
The project’s activities commence with the groundwork for establishing the SBA brand “Destination Forest.”
This involves creating a network of designated SBA forest areas and conducting a potential analysis that
includes mapping and assessing the current offerings in tourism, mental wellness, and cultural sectors. The result of work package 2 will be a guide for brand establishment and positioning. In the subsequent work package, five pilot projects will be executed to develop tourism portfolios that highlight various aspects of healing forest destinations. The final phase of the project will focus on evaluating the outcomes of these pilots, formulating policies, and implementing the SBA brand “Destination Forest,” thereby promoting tourism and raising awareness about the benefits of spending time in forest environments.
