Revitalising small harbours in the South Baltic area into accessible, attractive maritime experience points that boost tourism and local economies.
Overview: The MariEx – Creating new Maritime Experience Points & marketing narratives for land tourists to renew the maritime destination profile of the South Baltic area project transforms small harbours across the South Baltic area into inclusive “Maritime Experience Points” that attract land tourists and refresh the region’s maritime destination profile.
Key Objectives: The project aims to upgrade harbour offers and accessibility, develop a common maritime brand and narratives, and promote new harbour‑based tourism experiences that boost local attractiveness and visitor engagement.
Main Activities: Activities include forming an Innovator Community to identify best practices and design pilots; implementing and adapting pilot upgrades in selected harbours (including accessibility measures); creating a joint brand, marketing narratives and a MariEx Toolbox; and running outreach via a MariEx Helpdesk, events, exhibitions and guidance materials.
Impact: The project increases harbour accessibility and visitor appeal, strengthens local tourism economies, supports inclusive tourism practices, and provides transferable toolkits and guidelines to replicate harbour revitalisation across the South Baltic area.
