South Baltic invited to the European Parliament
Upon invitation of MEP Krzysztof Hetman, the South Baltic Programme contributed to an Interreg seminar held on 2 March 2016 at the European Parliament in Brussels. Attended by approximately 80 cohesion policy experts from all across Europe, the event put the spotlight on the benefits of interregional, maritime and local cross-border cooperation. For the maritime dimension, the Head of the South Baltic JS Thorsten Kohlisch took the floor, presenting the South Baltic projects “MarTech_LNG” and “abc.multimodal” as examples for the impact of cooperation on business growth and local development.
The presentations given by Interreg Europe, South Baltic, Euroregion “Bug” and the European Commission prepared the ground for a debate on the future of Interreg beyond 2020. “Trust and partnership”, “evidence of impact” and “simplification” were identified as key principles for the coming preparatory works, followed by MEP Hetman’s closing remarks stressing the genuine European added-value of Interreg.
